98 • SHOPPING CENTER BUSINESS • MAY 2015 R E T A I L R E V I E W under the brand names Airkix, SkyVen- ture and Freezone, while the primary brand moving forward in the U.S. will remain iFLY. Recent openings include Stonebriar Centre in Dallas; Rosemont, Illinois, near the Chicago O'Hare Air- port; and Park West Plaza Tukwila in Seattle. New locations will be opening soon in top-tier markets, including in Portland, Oregon; San Antonio, Texas; Ontario, California; San Diego; Sacra- mento, California; Yonkers, New York; King of Prussia, Pennsylvania; Overland Park, Kansas; and Paris, France. iFLY attracts more than 150,000 visi- tors per year to a site and the surround- ing communities, and features landmark building designs that become the center- piece attraction to the area. New facilities have all-glass flight chambers, essentially a large fish bowl with a 360-degree view for spectators. This unique attraction offers almost nominal risk for a shopping center at iFLY's capital expense and brings cus- tomers from an hour to two hours' drive time, according to Miller. "We're only going to build one facility in a mid-size market and two to three, at the most, in really large markets," he notes. And because iFLY focuses on flight rather than food or beverage offerings, iFLY is a strong complement to restaurant and other leisure offerings in a shopping center, says Framel. "We all know that a lot of retail is go- ing online," he says. "Flight is never going online. Retail centers need something that drives interest and visibility to their loca- tion and gets people excited, and that's what iFLY does." SCB The airflow in iFLY's wind tunnels is wall-to-wall, making it impossible for a person to fall and safe for all ages. Follow success…to Hemet.
