68 • SHOPPING CENTER BUSINESS • May 2016 RESTAURANT BITES NEWK'S EATERY OPENS 100TH RESTAURANT Newk's Eatery opened its 100th restaurant in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on April 4. The Lake Charles location is one of 15 planned by New Orleans- based franchisee Southeast Restaurant Group for the southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas region. Newk's currently has 100 locations in 13 states, with plans to expand to more than 200 units by 2019. CHICK-FIL-A BREAKS GROUND ON FIRST STORE IN MICHIGAN EXPANSION Chick-fl-A has broken ground on the frst store in a series of new openings in Michigan. Chick-fl-A will open 15 to 20 new stores within the next fve years. The frst freestanding building, located at 5617 W. Saginaw Highway in Lansing, will be completed this fall. The 4,971-square-foot restaurant will feature interior seating for 132 people, patio seating and two drive- thru lanes. The second store is expected to open at Troy's Somerset Collection by the end of the year. The remainder of the stores in the expansion will be opened at a rate of approximately three to four stores per year. The franchise is considering locations in Kalamazoo, metro Detroit, Grand Rapids and Lansing. Chick-fl-A currently operates two stores in the state of Michigan at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and on the Oakland University campus in Rochester. STORICO FRESCO PASTA, YEAH! BURGER AND KALE ME CRAZY TO OPEN AT THE EXCHANGE IN ATLANTA Charlotte-based FCA Partners has announced three new tenants joining The Exchange, a 44,500-square-foot retail center in Atlanta's Buckhead district. Storico Fresco Pasta, YEAH! Burger and superfood cafe Kale Me Crazy are all set to open this year. The project is a redevelopment of the former Buckhead Exchange. FCA Partners expects for construction on the redevelopment to wrap up this spring. Stephanie McCall of The Shopping Center Group is The Exchange's exclusive leasing agent. CHUY'S TO OPEN AT SPRINGTOWN SHOPPING CENTER IN SAN MARCOS Austin, Texas-based Tex-Mex chain Chuy's is set to open a new restaurant at Springtown Shopping Center in San Marcos, Texas. The new restaurant will occupy 6,500 square feet, and is set to feature an outdoor patio. Construction on the restauran began in March, with the restaurant set to open during the summer. The center, located at 205 W. Hopkins Street near Texas State University, is currently undergoing a $27.4 million renovation by Endeavor Real Estate Group. ARTISAN FOOD HALL TO OPEN AT THE SUMMIT AT FRITZ FARM IN LEXINGTON Bayer Properties has announced plans for an artisan food hall to open at The Summit at Fritz Farm, a mixed-use development located in Lexington, Kentucky. Deauville Food Hall will feature eight to nine food and beverage concepts and will incorporate architectural elements from the original tobacco barns on Fritz Farm, as well as a landscaped outdoor terrace conceived by local garden designer Jon Carloftis. Local eateries already committed to The Deauville Food Hall include Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream, a small-batch artisan ice cream maker employing locally sourced ingredients, and an offshoot of Lexington-based Athenian Grill. The Summit at Fritz Farm is set to open in March 2017. P.F. CHANG'S TO OPEN AT ONE DAYTONA IN DAYTONA BEACH P.F. Chang's is set to open a new restaurant at ONE DAYTONA, a planned 300,000-square-foot mixed- use development located across from Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. P.F. Chang's will open its new 5,500-square-foot restaurant within the project's Victory Circle section. Other tenants that have recently signed leases at ONE DAYTONA include Hy's Toggery and Kilwins Confections. The project is set to open in 2017. THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY TO OPEN AT FRIENDLY CENTER IN GREENSBORO CBL & Associates Properties Inc. has announced that The Cheesecake Factory will open a new location at Friendly Center, an upscale shopping center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Cheesecake Factory at Friendly Center will be the restaurant's frst location in the Greensboro market. Construction on the restaurant is currently underway at the corner of Pembroke Road and West Friendly Avenue. Existing tenants at Friendly Center include lululemon athletica, Anthropologie, Altar'd State and Whole Foods Market. GOOD UNION URBAN BBQ OPENS FIRST LOCATION AT CITYLINE IN RICHARDSON Good Union Urban BBQ has opened its frst location at CityLine, a 186-acre mixed- use project located in Richardson, Texas. The restaurant is located on the street lev- el of One CityLine at 1150 State Street, and serves Texas barbecue favorites like USDA prime brisket, pork, sausage, ham, turkey and ribs with eight specialty tacos. Patio seating is available facing the central plaza of the development, allowing guests to enjoy live music and events planned by CityLine. Other recent openings at the development include Nestle Toll House Café by Chip, Top Pot Doughnuts & Cof- fee, Red Mango, Starbucks Coffee and Tom+Chee. Whole Foods Market, Bite City Grill, Coal Vines, Edoko Sushi and Robata, Fernando's, Jasper's and Tricky Fish are scheduled to open at the CityLine later this year.
